The Artist

The April 15th challenge for About A Boy was to use your boys artwork on a scrapbook page.  Michael had recently brought some Johnny Appleseed projects home so it was the perfect time for me to try this.
I usually make scrapbook pages using a variety of techniques, but I decided to approach this one differently.  Since it was his artwork I wanted it to look like he has created the page as well.  I reached WAAAYYY back in my childhood and created the page like I would have when I was in elementary school.  I don't think you can tell from the picture, but it even has the owl hole in the tree that I think we all drew when we were younger.
I wouldn't have had fancy embellishments as a youngster so I used my cricut to cut basic shapes.  It ended up turning out just like I wanted it too.
Michael's original artwork that was the inspiration for my apple tree.

I'm so excited!!!

My friend La-Vie, of C'est La-Vie Designs Unlimited, LLC recently celebrated her birthday, and in honor of her special day she's doing a giveaway on her blog.

While that's exciting in itself, I'm honored to say she mentioned my blog twice!  Please go wish her a happy birthday, subscribe to her blog, and join in on the fun.

About A Boy Chevron Challenge

The April 1st challenge for About A Boy (link on the sidebar) was to use chevrons in your design - easy right!?  WRONG!  I went through my entire stash and found I had nothing.  Apparently I've never used a chevron before.
I went looking in my idea books and on web pages for inspiration, but everything was so busy for my style of scrapping.  I then stumbled upon a picture that had nothing to do with chevrons and noticed the rick rack, and that was the inspiration for the following page.
I knew I wanted the chevron to be subtle when I started so this was perfect for that.

You probably can't tell from the large page, but the photo mats are chevrons too.  I took a close up to try to show that detail.

As a final note....if anyone has any suggestions on how to take better pictures of my scrap pages I would love, love, love to hear them.  It seems no matter when I take the picture I get glare and the smaller details don't show.  Can't wait to hear your comments.  Until next time....

Heirloom Festival 2013 Haul

I've never done a haul video before, but thought the festival was the perfect opportunity to try.  I also tried a new filming technique in hopes of making it easier for me to see what the camera is actually getting.
My mom has also told me my whole life that I look washed out without my lipstick, and that I shouldn't wear my hair pulled to much off my face.  I always looked in the mirror, and thought um...ok.  Once I filmed, and viewed, this video...wow is she right!  If it hadn't been later in the day I would have re-done it with some make-up touch ups.
So without further ado....my haul video.

Allentown Stamp & Paper Festival Vlog

The schedules at work were re-arranged so I was lucky enough to have off the Saturday of the annual stamp show in Allentown, PA.  It's about 20 minutes away and I had a free ticket!  I tried to do some vlogging while I was there, but didn't want to interrupt everyone's shopping as I wasn't alone.  Hope you enjoy going shopping with me!

Title Help!

Happy Easter everyone!  I hope you had a good day celebrating this special time with family and friends.
I completed this layout earlier in the month for a use your scraps challenge, that I ultimately missed due to our camera breaking :-(  It's currently out for repair and the estimate is 4-6 weeks.  I'm taking pictures from my phone so please bear with the quality for awhile.
I like the way the layout came out, but I could use some help with the title.   I was thinking something along the lines of skee-ball or play-ball since it was M's first time seeing the boardwalk games, but I just can't come up with a placement idea, or design, I like.  Any suggestions?
I also kept on a roll with my love of glitter.  I felt the page needed some items of interest, but not necessarily more layering embellishments.  I just outlined some of the flowers to add pop, but not too much.  I didn't know if you could see it in the full picture so I grabbed an up close of one section.
I think when I go to the show next month I need to buy more glitter colors and I'm really loving the pop it adds to my papers.  I'd love to hear what your favorite glitter companies and colors are...Drop me a comment!

Killing Kennedy Review

I don't usually read anything history related, but I loved this!  The writing was simple enough to be interesting, but not so simple it was boring.
I enjoyed getting to know all the main players and the "extras."  I actually looked up the tour Jackie gave of the Whitehouse on youtube, after that section of the book.  I don't really know what I expected, but WOW did she sound like a stepford wife!  Maybe the movie was based on her???
I have to say that I unfortunately don't think America, as it stands today, would react the same way as 1963 if something so tragic happened to any of the recent Presidents. I think it would be more - oh so sad and move on :-(
If nothing else the book has made me want to read more on the topic. Oh, and I loved the little surprise at the end too about the reporter.
